Cozy Autumn Decor Ideas for Your Home
“The finishing touch was a twinkling pumpkin, aglow with fairy lights…”
The temperatures have finally dropped from the high 90’s here in Texas…the lighting has changed…and the wind whispers that fall is here! Eager to welcome in the new season, I began adding some autumn touches throughout our house.
A sprig of leaves with berries and a little green pumpkin placed on a stack of silver dessert servers was all that was needed to add autumn coziness to the shimmer and shine on the lower shelf of the tea cart.
I always have my “treasures of the heart” displayed; on the top of the tea cart, I placed a stack of worn and beloved books from my grandmother and a sparkly water pitcher. Then I wove a strand of bittersweet around the coffee service and tucked in some colored leaves and sprigs of cedar. Behind the books, I propped a small mirror with a beautiful, gilded frame that reflects the little autumn scene on the tea cart.
I love the contrast of the rustic autumnal additions against the shiny coffee service.
The finishing touch was a twinkling pumpkin, all aglow with fairy lights.
Pumpkins are the stars of fall

With the tea cart decor completed, I was ready for the dining room table! I wanted to create a tablescape that would bridge the gap between our still warm temperatures and the allure of the autumn season. Oranges and pumpkin hues seemed too drastic, but the more subdued colors of autumn, the greens and the golds seemed like the perfect color compromise between seasons.
In the hazy days at summer's end When the air's still warm and the green near spent When the days grow short and evenings tall Then you feel in a whisper, Fall
~Laura Jaworski
I searched around the house, looked in cabinets, and gathered up a variety of gold and green items that I could use in my tablescape.
Brass and crystal candlesticks hold a variety of votive cups and are paired with chunky sage colored pillar candles and slender, gold tapers. A clump of prickly cedar placed in a golden bowl sits on a stack of books. Bright green birds are perched on both sides of the tablescape and add a little whimsy…and a glass jar with a golden finial looks enchanting with a tiny, beaded box inside, nestled on a bed of moss.
Let your cares fall off like autumn leaves.

Like the glass jar holding the bed of moss and tiny treasure box, I love adding unexpected things to my tablescapes. This little vintage book, propped in front of a crystal, biscuit barrel, mingles with the other table decor and looks so fetching; every time I pass by the table, it beguiles me to come and look inside it’s sweet, worn cover.
After creating the focal point of the tablescape, it was time to add the dishes…the jewelry of the table! Green plates with embossed leaves around the edges on gold chargers…linen napkins with an edging of lace…crystal water glasses…and stemware with golden rims and encircled with grapevines.
There is magic in the nights when pumpkins glow by moonlight.”

That’s enough decorating for today. Next, I’ll be adding fall decor to the buffet…and after that, we’ll be going outside to The Dock House for some “not so spooky” Halloween decorating and a fun snack! Hope you’re enjoying some beautiful autumn weather wherever you are and lots of…”pumpkin and spice and everything nice.”
