Sitting on the Dock of the Bay…Dockside Tablescape and Picnic

If you are like me, as soon as you read the title of this post, you began whistling Otis Redding’s famous song, “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.” Friday was a beautiful, hot summer day and our daughter and granddaughter were over visiting. The lake looked so cool and inviting; the waters kept “waving” at us, beckoning us to come out and enjoy…”Sittin’ on the dock of the bay.”

We were easily persuaded, and I began packing a picnic to take out on the dock. “Do y’all want chicken salad or crab salad?” I asked. “Both!” was the unanimous answer. (: Our daughter went to the freezer and began packing ice for the iced vanilla coffee’s we were going to have with our al fresco meal, our granddaughter started washing grapes, and I gathered up macaroni salad, provolone cheese, deli salami, and an assortment of crackers and pretzels.

“Anchors Away!” Our dear red, white, and blue always create a festive mood.

A navy and white, buffalo checked Coleman throw makes a wonderful tablecloth for a dockside meal. A charcuterie board with the word LAKE spelled out in metal letters…a galvanized metal ice bucket with red and white fishing bobbers adorning the metal handles…cobalt blue fish shaped plates…and bundles of blue cutlery tied up in red bandana napkins, placed on a metal, fish shaped tray …are fun accoutrement and fitting for our tablescape and a dockside picnic.

A little wicker rowboat with a star-spangled paper liner makes the perfect basket for holding our assortment of crackers and pretzels. Sweet red and white bowls from my grandmother hold “Both!” our salads…chicken and crab. (:

LAKE charcuterie board with a little, metal rowboat spreader and a wooden oar spreader and a DRINKS AHOY insulated ice bucket.
