Antique & Flea Market Finds

Last year after I wrote about our antique and flea market trips, many of you wrote in the comment section and in letters, that you enjoyed reading about our shopping trips and seeing the treasures we found. We’ve been on several shopping adventures since then and I’ve been saving some of my favorite finds to share with you!

I like adventures, and I’m going to find some.

Louisa May Alcott

I couldn’t believe my good fortune when I saw this vase gleaming at me from the top shelf of one of the flea markets where we shop. This elegant Fitz & Floyd vase is trimmed along the top and bottom in gold paint and has a gorgeous array of autumn leaves, apples, grapes, lemons, blackberries, and raspberries clustered around the top of the vase. It will make a gorgeous centerpiece for Thanksgiving. Cost only $10.00!

Another beautiful vase I found in the same booth as the Fitz & Floyd vase was this Italian style vase, shaped as a jug and colored in cobalt blue, cream, and gold. The jug is surrounded with hand painted lemons, grapes, peaches, and leaf tendrils. The only markings I found on this piece was the number 59, and also, what looks like a backward C and the number 7 inscribed on the bottom of the vase. Please let me know in the comment section below if you know what company, or manufacturer these numbers/letter signify. The cost of this vase was only $5.00.

I’ve been wanting a silver loving cup for a long time to inscribe with our names and the date when we were married (47 years ago this past September!) I couldn’t believe when Richard came walking toward me on one of our shopping trips, his hands behind his back, a boyish grin on his face…and held out this perfect, silver beauty! Cost of the silver loving cup $11.00. Husband finding and surprising me with a treasure he knew I wanted…priceless! ❤

I couldn’t resist bringing home this miniature glass globe setting on a tiny brass stand, with a tiny brass axis. The countries of the world are etched on the glossy, blue surface of the globe. Cost only 50 cents!

Now, for the treasures I found for my Cottage Greenhouse. (:

These ducks look perfect in their new pond, nestled beneath the grass reeds that spill out of my antique toolbox in the cottage greenhouse. The shape and colors of these ducks are magnificent, and the ducks came with a wooden display pedestal. Cost $1.00.

It is perhaps a more fortunate destiny to have a taste for collecting shells than to be born a millionaire.

Robert Louis Stevenson

This vintage bird was made by one of my favorite companies, Royal Copley by the Spaulding China Company of Sebring, Ohio from 1939 – 1960. The bright- green bird looks “right at home” in my greenhouse perched on the 3-sided stand, next to some my gardening books. Cost $8.00

Made in American, this platter has a lot of crazing on the surface and a small chip on the back, but the motif around the edges and the painted flowers in the center were too beautiful to pass up. I knew it would look lovely in my “pink and white corner” in the greenhouse. Cost 50 cents.

It is amazing how lovely common things become, if one only knows how to look at them.

Louisa May Alcott

Look at the demure, ruffle-dy edges around the top and bottom of this little white pitcher I’ve placed at the base of my 3-tiered shelf (left side). A sweet flower petal forms the spout of the pitcher, and a leaf tendril forms the charming handle. Cost of pitcher – 50 cents.

Setting next to the white vase is another new find…a small, squatty vase with scalloped edges, colored in Depression glass, green. Cost – 50 cents.

Then, look closely on the 2nd shelf and you’ll see two, small, glass vases that I also found at the same flea market. The total cost for all 4 of these vases was $2.00…50 cents apiece.

I love collecting any cobalt blue glassware and antique pharmaceutical bottles are a favorite of mine. Washed and sparkly once again, the bottles are eye catching alongside my other blue and yellow pieces. Cost – 50 cents each.

For those of you that have been following my blog for a while, you know I love collecting vintage and antique salt and pepper shakers to use in my greenhouse. These glass shakers make quaint, one-of-a-kind containers that are great for storing seeds, or dried flower petals. This jade green shaker looks especially striking next to these dried yellow roses. Cost of vintage shaker $5.00

I found lots of embroidery work (always a favorite find.) Most of the embroidered pieces I bought were only 50 cents, but 2 of the larger table coverings I bought were $2.00 each.

I found books with wonderful illustrations and aged pages that I use in making journals. Cost – only $3.00 for a whole bag of books!

I was delighted to find a beautiful, antique, dainty shelf with a scalloped mirror, just like I’ve been looking for and envisioned,” in my mind’s eye.” Cost $8.00.

Then the most unusual, and a favorite find of ours, a wooden storage box that looks like a faux book with leather hinges and a hand painted book cover of Little Red Riding Hood walking into the enchanted forest; beguiling as the fairy tale itself, and only $8.66.

So many more wonderful finds…but that is all the time we have for vicarious shopping today! (; Hope you’ve enjoyed it!

  1. It was so much fun to “virtually” go antiquing with you and Richard. As the (slightly edited) saying goes, “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure!”

    1. Patricia,
Next time I’ll try to put on more of what we found. I didn’t want my post to get too long, or worse yet, boring…but Richard actually said he was disappointed when I concluded so quickly! 😄
      Dear man. 🥰
Thank you always for your kind words and encouragement! 😘
